I have been getting this weird error ever since getting windows vista. It happens sometimes when i just turn on the computer. My graphics card is a EVGA 7900 gs graphics card and I have 2gb memory with dual core 2x1.82ghz I tryed getting the latest drivers for the gfx card like windows said but it doesnt work. This is what the error says: This issue might occur if the display driver is caught in an infinite loop while it waits for the video hardware to become idle. This issue typically indicates a problem with the video hardware or that the display driver cannot program the hardware correctly. If anyone can help me ill be greatly appreciated! I am getting this error message along with many others, all without help as none of the highlighted areas or links work on my Dell computer with Vista Basic, that would send me to Microsoft.
I have constant shut downs and cannot even do some of what I am told as it either shuts down or I do not the same set up to click on whatever I am suppose to click. Dell says it is a Microsoft problem and I basiclly can't do anything on my computer, new Dell E520, other than try to read email or search the web. No help solutions in any of my documents or linking to right area of Microsoft. I have tried to days to search for any of the errors and this is the first time I found one.
And still there is no solution to be found, where do I go exactly to find someone to help? I am running Vista home premium on AMD Athlon 2400+XP, 1 gig ram, ATI Radeon 9550.
I also get the stop error but only if I open Windows Media Centre, media centre opens OK but after a few key strokes I get vertical white lines on my display and then the machine crashes with a blue screen with white writing that is impossible to read. When I reboot windows is fine as long as I dont run media centre the machine will run happily for hours. I have tried ATI latest drivers but that makes the problem worse so am sticking with the driver that vista installed for the Radeon and leaving media centre well alone (for now anyway). I've been getting the same error with my ATI X1650 Pro PCI-E card on Vista Ultimate. It happens when I try to view pretty much any video content. As long as I'm not doing anything requiring video playback, everything's fine.
The ATI website said that when that type of problem happens it's usually related to the system chipset drivers, so I downloaded the latest chipset drivers from my MB manufacturer's site. It seemed to help a little bit in that some videos that I could not watch at all would at least go a few seconds in before crashing. I've got a support ticket in with ATI right now, but still waiting to hear anything back from them. If anyone actually has a solid solution to this problem, please let me know.
It's frustrating not being to do half the things I built this computer for. This is a graphics Card issue simply a bad GPU > It isnt able to process video correctly> If you have strong enough onboard graphics embedded try removing the GC and switching the graphics to onboard in your BIOS.
Plug you monitor to the standard Motherboard VGA port and see if basic functioning video apps are still doing the same thing. If it isnt you know it is for sure the GC. Normally this can happen with any GPU however it should only be happening with video intensive programs Like High end Video Games and graphically intensive movies like HD or otherwise. I'm really not trying to do anything very graphics intensive. The most recent crash happened while I was watching a tutorial on Expression Blend. It was an 11 minute video streamed over the internet, and about 6 minutes in, the system crashed with that STOP error on the blue screen.
What's the likelihood that my power supply could be causing the instability? Mermaid game download. I'm running a Coolermaster 430W PSU (Coolermaster P/N RS-430-PCAR) with these system components: MSI 975X Platinum v.2 motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 1.86GHz Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 RAM, 4 sticks @ 1GB each 512MB ATI X1650 Pro PCI Express x16 graphics card Western Digital 320GB 7200rpm SATA HD LG SuperMulti DVD Writer w/ Lightscribe Intel stock CPU cooling fan 3 Case fans (2x120mm, 1x80mm) 3 generic backlit gauges on the front of the case (for HD activity, Case Temp, and Fan RPM) I have several USB peripherals hooked up as well, but they all supply their own power. Cable modem, printer/scanner combo, external HDD, wireless keyboard and mouse. Is it possible that 430W just isn't cutting it?
Or would I be experiencing some behavior other than system crashing? Same error here as well, though for me it happens whenever I boot Vista, not just intermittently. Slightly frustrating, especially since I can't even attempt any of the KB suggestions in Safe Mode. I don't think it's a power issue as I never had any such problems with XP. Maybe I'll see if Gigabyte's bothered releasing anything pertinent, not that I could install it in Safe Mode if they did. • Pentium 4 3.0 GHz • Gigabyte GA-8KNXP • 512 MB RAM • Radeon 9800 Pro • Creative Audigy 2 • Windows Vista Business.
