Nvidia Settings Download
My nvidia driver seems to have not only stopped functioning but has apparently completely vanished after the 8.1 update. On my device manager only Microsoft Basic Display adapter is listed (twice). They're both updated fully. In the control panel the nvidia control panel is still there, but clicking on it only gets an error message (nvidia display settings are not available. You are not using a display connected to an nvidia gpu).
My desktop photo is a grey scrambled mess of pixels. Windows boxes are filled with thick, blurry text. I found and tried to download a driver update from nvidia for 8.1 - it didn't work, when it did the compatibility check it found no nvidia drivers on the system.
Right clicking on the desktop no longer provides any nvidia options. I tried downloading the driver (327.23) from nvidia suggested by its automatic system scan. I was told I had to have an Intel driver installed first. I went to the Intel download centre, did the same scan, but the scan does not complete, so I don't know which Intel driver to download. My question is: How do I salvage my computer from the attack of 8.1? (also IE11 seems to be constantly freezing and crashing). Hi Sherpa, This issue may occur due to corrupted display driver.
What is the make and model of the computer? Method 1: I would suggest you to uninstall NVIDIA driver and software completely from the computer and reinstall latest display driver from the manufacturer website. Step 1: Follow these steps to uninstall display driver. A) Press Windows Key + R, type Control Panel. B) Click on Programs and features. D) Right-click on the NVIDIA driver or software, click on Uninstall. Step 2: Now install latest display driver from the manufacturer website and check if it helps.

The computer is a Dell XPS 15 (2012 version). I managed to find the name of the Intel driver manually, downloaded that and reinstalled it.
I was then able to reinstall the NVidia driver. The problem seems to be fixed.
However, I noticed on a blog post there seems to be a download specifically for 8.1: This is a different driver to the one I have (327.23). Am I to understand that 326.01 was simply for the preview, and I have the latest driver? Also, another small puzzle: Google on IE11 seems to be an older style Google.
For example, the image search is the previous iteration, that displays the photos more like thumbnails rather than tiles. As for IE11, I didn't reset it, just deleted the history and cookies and everything - that seemed to work at first. Then I got the Silverlight security message asking me if I wanted to Run or Don't Run (on the web outlook page). I obviously trusted this website so I clicked Run (not really knowing what this meant) and the browser crashed.
Not only on the outlook page, but on other Microsoft related websites too. Closing the browser and reopening has no effect - until I delete the history etc trying to revisit those pages crashes the browser. Any idea what's going on there? At first I had the NVidia Control panel which told me that I DO NOT have an NVidia device. Hardware monitor showed me that I DO ONLY have an NVidia device, no intel graphics chip functioning. I deleted the NVidia from the System configuration, used the intel inside. At last I managed to get a better screen resolution but no support for the 2nd monitor. Trying to install the NVidia GeForce GT740 driver ran into code 28. Many tips from NVidia and nothing works.
