M1a Best Serial Numbers

AFAIK, that's so some malcontent does not falsely accuse someone else of theft. In this instance, all I'm saying is I've read the tags for the serial numbers posted. I'm making no claim to ownership.

I've read other factory headspace tags. Serial number 166719 was built in August, 2004 but I don't remember the exact date. If you wish, post the last digit or two as 'X', e.g., 1056XX.

I sent it to sven yesterday for posting at It is the 12/28/04 version. There's tons more information to come before the book goes to print in early February so I feel comfortable with posting what I have written so far on the Internet. What sven will post is over 70,000 words or about 20% over the 11/13/04 version.

Plus this version has been copyedited thanks to a very generous individual, Mr. Brent Blanchard. T44fan over at just gave me the hook up for a CD that has eighty-five articles (yes, M14 fans) on the M14 rifle that appeared in the American Rifleman between 1955 and 2002. So, I'll make excellent research use of that and give credit in the Bibliography of course.

However, you should get an answer to your question now. So, I'll start another thread.

I'll copy and paste various sections from the 12/28/04 version of M14 Rifle History and Development so that you have the complete answer. AS ALWAYS, if anyone finds an error, PLEASE tell me. I want the story of the M14 rifle to be accurate, complete and widely distributed. I'm just a fan dedicated to this labor of love of telling the M14 story.
